Barlows Hits the Marks

24th May 2006

Leading interior solution specialists, Barlows, completed another project for Marks & Spencer in its prestigious Dublin store last month.

With a long-standing relationship with the high street giant, Barlows project-managed the design interpretation and delivery of the brand new Café Revive in the Grafton Street store. Despite initial concerns regarding potential design and installation issues due to the listed status of the building’s interior, Barlows experience in the retail sector helped ensure these were resolved quickly and efficiently in the planning stages of the project.

The Barlows team applied Marks & Spencer’s standard café design creating a layout that was both sympathetic to the listed interior yet provided a modern, welcoming environment for shoppers. Throughout the project great care was taken to protect the existing fabric of the building.

Completing the project within six weeks, Barlows worked to create a restaurant that not only reflected the brand values of Marks & Spencer but maximised space to ensure excellent customer flow and optimum seating capacity. A bespoke S-shaped servery counter incorporating feature lighting was the centrepiece of the new café. The project also included providing unique bench seating in addition to the freestanding chairs and tables to offer ample seating without compromising the overall atmosphere for customers.

The design accommodated the necessary service areas and equipment to achieve a stylish yet functional working area for the Café Revive staff. Working with Marks & Spencer from the beginning of the project ensured that the Barlows team had a clear understanding of all the objectives of the project.

With its extensive experience in project management Barlows was able to interpret Marks and Spencer’s design to achieve a café which was not only well conceived for the end user but could be implemented without compromising style or budget.

Barlows’ project manager John Wood explains:
“Project managing the Café Revive at Grafton Street meant that we were able to effectively manage and meet the challenges associated with interpreting the design and working within listed buildings. This ensured that every stage was planned accordingly, allowing us to complete the project on time defect free and to budget.”
