Forest Stewardship Council

As public awareness of the environment grows, sustainability is influencing the agendas of many UK businesses. The construction industry is an example of an industry with enormous potential for improving environmental performance.

Founded in 1993, the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is an international, non-governmental organisation dedicated to promoting responsible management of the world’s forests. The impacts of unsustainable logging are vast, having social, economic, and environmental implications. The FSC label guarantees that the trees that are harvested are replaced or allowed to regenerate naturally.

Barlows is pleased to advise that we are now FSC certified by the SmartWood Program of the Rainforest Alliance. Attaining FSC Chain of Custody certification will assist us in meeting our sustainability objectives for 2010 and beyond.  In addition, the use of FSC certified timber in Barlows projects will stimulate sustainable materials selection throughout  our supply chain.
